Dear Editor,

Proposed Garbage Incinerator Project

I was amaze to read your article "An end to the SD Dump" in yesterday's paper. This article describe a proposal to construct a huge garbage incinerator here.I wish to point out several aspects of this plan which were not considered in the article.

Firstly, the land on which this plant will be located is swampy and will be very costly to reclaim. It is also the home of several species of rare birds which might which might be driven away by the construction works.Next , the cost of the plant , which is estimated to be RM70 million seems excessive. The present system of dumping in old quarries is quite satisfactory , and operates for a fraction of the cost of this proposal.

Lastly , do we really need a plant like this? The money that is to be spent on the imported machinery should be used to find ways to support local technology.
